Reading Le Morte d'Arthur, and it's interesting, because where another book might use foreshadowing to subtly hint at future events, this book will just straight up tell you "by the way, this guy is going to be killed by this other guy." Sometimes even before you've met either guy. Never before have I encountered a work of fiction so dedicated to spoiling itself.

Dick. For the canon isn't real square I am Specifically talking about the Tom Taylor Nightwing run. Usually I ignore bad runs but given this one is ongoing (though about to end THANK GOD and get replaced by Dan Watters who i have high hopes for since i adored his Sword of Azrael (2022) run but i digress) so I counted it. Especially since it's so debated if that run is bad or not, for some reason. I'm a 90s Nightwing truther. I love Dick so dearly and tbh recently I've been more enamored with him the more I read his Discowing era, I didn't used to be as big of a Dick stan as I am these days.

Bruce. Honestly where do you even start with Bruce. I want to fist fight him and also patch him up. He got me into comics and superheroes as a whole but I roll my eyes whenever he shows up in a story. He's a bastard and usually not a good father but also complex and should be dissected under a magnifying glass. I love him dearly. He's also just the worst. I think that's why I love him. I'm always a fan of unabashedly Complicated Asshole Bruce who's generally not always the best person, particularly not to the Batfamily and that being the driving force of his relationships with them, especially in shipping.

And for bonus points, Tim. Because know above all else, I'm a Tim Drake kinnie /deg. He's been my number one for a decade and I've yet to uproot him from my brain. He's literally the Worst half the time and I love him for it. And the canon isn't real refers to Tim Drake: Robin because... that sure was a comic. And that's about all I can say about it. Pre-Flashpoint Tim I miss you so dearly. I think it's fun that I want to put him in a blender and drink the juice but also want Nothing Ever to happen to him.

I’m kind of baffled about the state of dawntrail discussions having two parties in regards to Living Memory, one being “shutting it down is amoral” and the other being “it’s moral and not at all like what Emet-Selch wanted to do with us”. It’s like a lot of people refuse to engage with the narrative from any other perspective other than their own when the game essentially hits you over the head with the message.

Yes, the existence of Living Memory is unsutainable and amoral and, frankly, pointless – you can make the very valid argument that the people there were just AI chatbots trained on the memories of a given individual, leeching off of the souls of others, their existence demanding the genocide of the entire universe in the end. I agree, in our eyes, Living Memory is an affront to life, sure!

Nobody seems to talk about that this is the exact same perspective Emet-Selch had about us, or when mentioned, people say that it isn’t the same. It is? He very explicitly tells us that the people living on the shards today are pale imitations to what he considered to be life, and thus shutting it down and trying to undo his mistake IS the solution (he is very much like Solas from DA in this regard), because in his eyes there’s nothing to lose but everything to gain. Emet-Selch saw us in the same light we see the people of Living Memory, and the game is painfully unsubtle in drawing this parallel. Even with the differences (we are not recreated memories but actual souls being reborn from the aetherial sea, etc-etc), the game WANTS you to make this connection between Emet and what we do. It is quite literally the point!

Yes, Living Memory has to be shut down because its biggest drawback is that it’s unsustainable and would continue to destroy what we deem to be lives. It is also arguably an affront to what we consider life and its natural end (directly opposing the message of Endwalker). The Endless aren’t even too hung up about this shutdown, bar Sphene. Shutting down Living Memory is necessary.

But you can’t say it was morally good and unquestionable if you can’t give Emet’s views the same grace. In the end, both his plans (and the Ascians at large, frankly) and Living Memory had to be stopped because that means survival for us, but to divorce the two narratives to maintain the WoL and co.’s moral superiority is disingenuous and does the story a disservice.

I think this might just ruin bells hells

Like obviously Ashton is going to be ruined. Completely devastated. Many a person has pointed it out before but they were so afraid of FCG becoming a martyr and it happened

Fearne will blame herself for not doing more to heal, or anything else

I can’t imagine Cheney coming out of this unchanged. He might be upset about being brought back, that it should have been FCG to be saved instead

Delilah will use this as an excuse to encourage Laudna to get more power so she can prevent this from ever happening to imogen

Imogen and Orym will blame themselves more than anything, I think. They both have the most stakes in this game on the moon and because they got their friends involved, one of them is now dead

Bells hells is already dysfunctional as it is, but now that their voice of optimism is gone, they might just go off the deep end

There is also the possibility that this brings them closer together which will prob happen for the narrative but I can’t help but imagine that they crash and burn after this

I don't know how to say this without coming across like I'm bragging about being morally superior (I'm not) but whever a Direct or an E3 thing or whatever happens and I see people discuss what they will and what they won't buy I'm just like. We're never getting out of this hole huh.

The idea of a Switch 2 disgusts me. The neverending train of slight technological upgrades for playthings at direct cost of the lives of the people who mine for it and work to build it is disgusting. The idea of people even considering paying for it is insane to me. Before you ask yes I was also disgusted by the 3DS and Wii U the Switch is not special. IF I buy the Switch 2 it'll be years from now secondhand, likely after they've already stopped producing it, as I did with my 3DS. I'll def miss new Zelda games and other games that I'd find fun and will play them years later if at all, but like. Who cares. There's such a massive backlog of great video games on the Switch alone, why the hell would I shill out for a new system so I can buy new games as they come out? Nintendo is not getting a dime from me.

And all these overpriced €60+ games and endless mediocre spin-offs and 'HD' re-releases or subscription services to play games that are decades old, like. It's fucking criminal to me. I'm not paying Nintendo for that and it's insane to me that ppl are. I did not pay Nintendo for a single Zelda game I played. I pirated them, bought them secondhand, or in the case of Age of Calamity, played it on my friend's account for free. I watched people rush to buy Echoes of Wisdom at the full €60 price as soon as it released much the same way you'd watch lemmings dive off a cliff. I waited a few months and got it secondhand for half the retail price. It's a game that's like maybe a sixth the scale of BOTW and it's retailing only about €10 cheaper, and we KNOW it's not worth that, we all know and complain about it, and then people pre-order it anyway??? It's just insane to me.

All this while there's a thriving indie game scene where you can get brilliant games for a fraction of the price or entirely for free. Ppl are paying €60 for a game when Undertale is on Steam for €10. Literally why the fuck would you do that.

Like I'm truly not trying to be all morally superior here, I run a damn LOZ blog, I am not immune to large unethical media franchises (or poor financial decisions, for that matter), but the sheer ubiquity of it. The fact that no matter how much anyone complains about broken game releases or unethical business practices every single goddamn cash grab will still make millions if not billions of dollars. That ppl can't even simply wait a few months to buy a game secondhand, that the idea of not playing the latest installment in a popular game franchise they like is so unbearable they'll play it regardless of quality, buy it overpriced, buy a whole damn useless new game console just to keep up with future releases... It's so disheartening to me. We're never fucking getting out of this hole are we.

In conclusion: consider putting the money you would've spent on the Switch 2 or The Legend of Zelda: Link's Asscrack or whatever on indie games on itch.io instead.
